God Had A Reason (A Holocaust Survivor's Story)
"You Miss Edzia, you should register Miss Edzia." I heard the pleasant voice of the eight year old Henick. He was a neighborhood child who played each day with my precious nephew.
"That's exactly what I have in mind," I replied automatically.
This child's suggestion started me thinking. I stopped at the connecting bridge to think for awhile. I was never a superstitious person, but at this moment I felt that a higher power was speaking to me through this child. His voice sounded almost supernatural - like the voice of an angel.
I turned around and once more read the announcement. It now sounded quite attractive to me, considering that I was living in a hell called the Ghetto Lodz. There would be food to eat and my family would receive twelve Marks a month. Twelve Marks, I thought, twelve Marks more for the family and one less mouth to feed. How wonderful!
This was the decision that saved Edzia from the fate that faced the rest of her family, being shot and thrown into a ditch. In every person's life there is one moment which moves us into a direction we cannot turn back from. Edzia chose to survive.
Join Edzia as she takes her journey from childhood to labor camp in Pomerania to Auschwitz to Ravensbruk to Malchow and liberation in Sweden. Travel with her as she returns to Poland after the war and finds out why God Had A Reason for Edzia to survive.
